I looked long and hard to find an ultrasonic cleaner on that had a detachable base as I knew that any water ingress in an electronic like this would cause failure. Other products on require that you disconnect the unit to dump the water out, increasing risk that the port or insides get wet. This unit cleverly has a base that has contact points for power. Despite having higher hopes for this product given these characteristics, the unit failed after 2 weeks. I put an excessive amount of energy (more than needed) in making sure the contacts remain dry and wiped the sides of the unit after every use. Still, the unit stopped working. I am thinking the rim of the metal basin where it meets the plastic has a gap where water can leak into the interior while you pour out the water. There is no way to prevent that from happening. Simply poor design. Returned the unit and the search for a good one continues.
